Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank steak thinly sliced against the grain
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

The Special Sauce

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp minced ginger
  • Optional: red pepper flakes or Sriracha sauce for spice
  • Optional: sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, water, and sesame oil. Set aside.
  • Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add sliced beef and stir fry for 2-3 minutes, or until browned and cooked to your desired level of doneness. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.
  • In the same wok, add another tbsp vegetable oil. Add minced garlic and ginger, and stir fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add broccoli florets to the wok and stir fry for 2-3 minutes, or until the broccoli is bright green and tender-crisp.
  • Return the cooked beef to the wok with the broccoli. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and broccoli, and stir well to coat everything evenly. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  • Optional: If you want some heat, sprinkle red pepper flakes or drizzle Sriracha sauce over the stir fry and toss to incorporate.
  • Remove from heat and serve the beef and broccoli stir fry and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • Slice the beef against the grain to ensure tenderness.
  • Precook the broccoli by blanching or steaming briefly before stir-frying for a vibrant color and crisp texture.
  • For extra flavor, marinate the beef in a mixture of soy sauce, garlic, and cornstarch before cooking.
  • Have all the ingredients prepped and ready to go before starting the stir fry to ensure a quick and efficient cooking process.
