Garlic is one of those ingredients that people either love and actually want to taste or they avoid it and think it’s too strong. I love it! I do think it is strong but when portioned and accompanied correctly – it is amazing.
Garlic has a pungently strong flavor and smell. By roasting it, we are mellowing out the flavor into a buttery sweet taste. It will absolutely change your aspect of “too much garlic” – which there is no such thing!
Adding it to dishes as a condiment, flavor enhancer, and more makes it such a great condiment to make in bulk. Some of my favorite recipes to include roasted garlic in are:
French Onion Soup
Compound Butter
How To Make Roasted Garlic?
There are 2 versions of roasted garlic you can make, whole unpeeled head of garlic and peeled garlic cloves. It is basically the same steps – either you want to peel the cloves out first or not.
Tips and Tricks
Instead of using a whole head of garlic cut in half, I prefer to use peeled garlic cloves when making this recipe. This allows you to ensure there will be no shells or peels in the end result.
Storing/ Leftovers
You can store your cloves in a mason jar or airtight container for about 2-3 weeks in the fridge or 2-3 months in the freezer. And it is important to allow the cloves to cool completely before storing them.
Here is one of my favorite inexpensive storage containers from Amazon >> https://amzn.to/3KsBeou
There are two ways you can store roasted garlic.
- Leaving the roasted garlic cloves whole and storing them in olive oil.
- Blend the roasted garlic cloves in a food processor and store them in an air-tight container with a top layer of olive oil.
For this recipe, I like to use the smaller of the 2 attachments with the Hampton Beach Blender. It allows you to smoothly blend smaller portions.
Variations
This recipe is a super easy base that allows you to use the cloves in any application. You can elevate the flavor by adding different herbs and spices to the recipe. These can be ingredients such as:
Rosemary
Thyme
Oregano
Sage
Crushed Red Pepper
Peppercorns
